During an interview with Fandango, Avengers: Endgame co-writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely cleared up some questions fans may have about the final scene with Chris Evans’ Captain America and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon.
Avengers: Endgame concluded with Chris Evans’ Captain America traveling back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones the team took from the past, thus keeping the timeline intact. However, instead of returning the present after his mission was complete, Chris Evans’ Captain America decided to remain in the past and live a full life with Peggy Carter.
When Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers returned to the present, he passed the shield on to Sam Wilson, but it appears some fans were uncertain if this meant Falcon would now take on the Captain America mantle. Fortunately, Stephen McFeely confirmed that as far as he knows, Sam Wilson is the new Captain America from here on out:
“As far as we know, yeah.”
Christopher Markus then concurred with his co-writers statement:
“Certainly seems like it to me.”
