Chris Hemsworth will portray now-retired WWE legend Hulk Hogan in a biopic that the outlet’s sources say will explore the wrestling superstar’s rise and describe “as an origin story of the Hulkster and Hulkamania.” The project will be helmed by Joker director Todd Phillips and reunites the filmmaker with Scott Silver. Deals for the Hulk Hogan biopic are on the verge of closing with Netflix.
Michael Sugar, the Academy Award-winning producer of Spotlight, will serve the same role on the biopic through his Netflix-based Sugar23 while Todd Phillips and Bradley Cooper will produce under their Joint Effort banner. Chris Hemsworth is also on board as a producer alongside Eric Bischoff.
The deal includes life rights with the WWE legend acting as both a consultant on the movie and an executive producer. Sugar23’s Ashley Zalta will be on board an executive producer while Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman will co-produce.
Chris Hemsworth will next be seen as Thor in the fourth Avengers film.
