In the past, if you wanted to connect with the creator of something you enjoyed, you would have to write a letter or travel to a convention. That is not the case anymore. Whether it be Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter, new social media platforms give fans direct interaction with writers, artists, directors, and comedians. With filmmakers like James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy) using Twitter to shoot the breeze about movies, it was a sad day when Joss Whedon (The Avengers) deleted his account shortly after the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
We are happy to report that Whedon is back in the Twitter game, donning the handle @joss:
You may remember the circumstances around the Firefly creator’s departure last year. Essentially, all of the craziness that comes with Twitter (i.e. gamergate comments, the situation surrounding Leslie Jones) combined with the pressure that comes with directing the sequel to a billion dollar franchise resulted in the director taking a break from all things social media. He (as the meme says) deleted his account and, except for some comments here and there, he had removed himself from the public eye altogether. It is great to see one of our favorites back online.
