Avengers: Endgame arguable contains what is one of the best final acts of any superhero film. The film’s final act has Thanos devastate the Avengers’ headquarters before taking on Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor in a fight to the death. The fight with Thanos reached a low point for our heroes when the villain managed to destroy half of Captain America’s shield with his weapon. Not long after, the rest of Thanos’ army arrives and implied that Captain America would die in the upcoming fight. But, once upon a time, the destruction of Captain America’s shield was meant to play out differently.
In a recent post, Avengers: Endgame head of visual development Ryan Meinerding shared a look at the fight as it was originally meant to play out. In addition, Meninerding shared the thought process behind the fight and the shield’s destruction. You can see the full Avengers: Endgame image below:
What do you all make of this image? Should Thanos have smashed Captain America’s shield with his bare hands? Was the shield’s destruction better in the film itself? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
