New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Theory On Sad Reason Bruce Banner Is Upset

Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) seemed very distraught in the Avengers: Endgame trailer and one Marvel fan seems to have a compelling theory why.

The trailer for Avengers: Endgame featured some heartbreaking moments. One of these moments was Bruce Banner looking very, very emotional while looking at an image suggesting that Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and Shuri (Leticia Wright) are all missing after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. It seems like he’s focused on Ant-Man before he looks away, seemingly overwhelmed.

The strange thing is, the only one of those characters that Banner even briefly encountered was Shuri. So, why does he seem so upset? It’s a pretty overwhelming situation in general, but a Reddit post from user hulkreborn seems to have a pretty convincing theory. The fan theory suggests that Marvel is pulling a fast one on fans by swapping out the faces in the trailer because Banner is actually looking at a picture of Betty Ross. Check out the full theory in the post below.

Betty Ross is Bruce Banner’s iconic love interest that was last played by Liv Tyler in The Incredible Hulk. Despite the titular role being recast and many of the plot-threads being left open, the film is still a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, Betty’s father General Ross (William Hurt) played an integral role in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. While speaking with the Huffington PostAvengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo did confirm that Betty Ross was a victim of Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) snap, so the theory isn’t exactly a long shot.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Avengers: Endgame as soon as more information becomes available. Would you like to see Liv Tyler reprise her role as Betty Ross? If not, then who else would you like to see play the role in the MCU? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Avengers: Endgame is scheduled to be released in theaters April 26th, 2019.
