‘Avengers: Endgame’ Writers Explain Why Captain America Couldn’t Lift Thor’s Hammer Before

Avengers: Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely explained why Captain America couldn’t lift Thor’s hammer before his showdown with Thanos.

During the climactic battle of Avengers: Endgame, Captain America proved to be worthy enough to wield Thor’s hammer for his one-on-one fight with Thanos. While it was one of the most thrilling moments of the epic film, some have wondered if this meant Captain America chose not to lift Thor’s hammer during the party sequence in Age of Ultron or if he was not yet worthy at that time.

During a Quarantine Watch Party for Avengers: Endgame hosted by ComicBook.com, a curious fan put this question to writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. In response, Markus explained that in their eyes, Captain America was not fully worthy of holding Thor’s hammer until he resolved the issue of knowing Bucky was responsible for the death of Tony Stark’s parents.

Check out Markus’ post on Captain America and Thor’s hammer below.
