Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, and Brie Larson made a surprise appearance on Friday at the Disney California Adventure Park for the patients of the L.A. Children’s Hospital that were enjoying themselves at the theme park. The gathering was part of the Avengers Universe Unite charity event, which revealed a whopping $5 million donation for the Hospital. During the event, the stars shared with the children LEGO Avengers figures and talked about their favorite MCU characters, ultimately having a blast. Adam Garone, CEO of Starlight Children’s Foundation summarized the experience in a press release:
“From delivering hospital care packages, to storytelling through Starlight Xperience virtual reality, to our recent Disney-themed Starlight Gowns, millions of seriously ill children have benefited from our amazing relationship together. And with this donation, even more kids will get to experience the magic of Disney.”
Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, was also grateful that the Avengers cast took it upon them to share some of their time with children who need them the most:
“The superheroes in Avengers personify traits like courage, perseverance, bravery and hope – the same traits countless kids and their families in children’s hospitals exhibit every day. We are grateful to have the Avengers cast take time out of their day to be a part of this effort to lift spirits and bring comfort to children during a difficult time.”
This event is part of the Avengers: Endgame press tour which will have these actors traveling around the world to promote the film. Avengers: Endgame might be one of the most anticipated Marvel Studios films to date after Avengers: Infinity War broke several box office records and Black Panther managed to win a number of Academy Awards some weeks ago. Even more so, fans were left with one of the most excruciating and surprising cliffhangers in film history when Thanos got away with murder and enacted his Decimation event over the Universe effectively killing half of every living being in it.
Of course, the Avengers lost several team members and were left in shambles. Captain America and the heroes in Wakanda were left grieving on Earth while Iron Man and Nebula were left stranded on Titan. The last few trailers show us that the remaining Avengers will try to mend the situation but how they’ll do it, it’s still a mystery and fan theories are spawning every day. Whatever happens next in Avengers: Endgame will reshape the MCU and will probably give us a tease as to what to expect in its next phase which will feature new franchises like The Eternals or Shang-Chi.
