‘Avengers: Endgame’ Concept Art Shows Deleted Hulk Scene From Rerelease

Concept art for the Hulk’s big deleted scene from the Avengers: Endgame rerelease has been revealed.

Originally, Avengers: Infinity War was set to introduce Professor Hulk, but this was changed for narrative reasons. In any case, the original plan for Avengers: Endgame was for the Hulk’s first scene after the time skip to involve an action sequence. As seen after the credits of the rerelease, the Hulk is seen rushing into a building fire after a police officer (portrayed by Die Hard actor Reginald VelJohnson) called in for help; the Green Goliath subsequently saves several lives before he takes a phone call on his tablet to meet up with the other Avengers. This would have led right into the diner scene that provided exposition for Hulk’s new outlook on life.

While the scene itself was included with the Endgame rerelease in theaters, it was unfinished, meaning that the sequence was likely cut early on when directors Joe and Anthony Russo were narrowing the film down to an already-intimidating 3-hour running time. This led to some misplaced criticisms about the CGI being unfinished, when the scene was never meant to be theater-ready in the first place. Nonetheless, a more complete vision of what the sequence may have looked like exists in the form of concept art from Ryan Meinerding, which can be seen below:

Curiously, this is the only released deleted scene from Avengers: Endgame that has not been shared by Marvel Studios on home video formats since the rerelease. The only legal way to watch it was through seeing the theatrical cut in theaters, and it was mysteriously not included with Disney+ along with other unreleased deleted scenes, such as Tony Stark’s vision of an older version of his daughter.
