‘Avengers: Endgame’ Team Clears Up Questions On Aging After Five-Year Time Jump

Directors Anthony & Joe Russo and writers Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely clarified questions about the aging process in Avengers: Endgame.

After our heroes learned Thanos destroyed the Infinity and therefore removed any chance of reversing his decimation, Avengers: Endgame jumped ahead five years into the future and naturally, the survivors aged accordingly. While the Avengers were ultimately able to undo Thanos’ decimation and bring back everyone who was erased from existence, it appears some fans were unsure if those who returned had also aged five years in their absence.

During the audio commentary for Avengers: Endgame, co-writer Stephen McFeely clarified that while our heroes were able to undo Thanos’ decimation, they did not return the point where everyone vanished five years before:

“That’s the thing. I think some test audiences thought, ‘Oh did we just go back five years? And no.”

As for whether or not those who vanished aged five years as well, the creative team behind Avengers: Endgame confirmed that the vanished returned at the same age they were when they were erased from existence:

“And they did not age five years. The people were gone. They just were brought back to the exact moment at which they went away, but five years later. So, Peter Parker is still a high-schooler. Ned, his buddy, is still a high-schooler. Because both of them had disappeared.”
