Speaking with Collider, President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige explained the company’s rationale for stretching out the reveal of Endgame:
“Well, I think I’d said that it all had gotten blown out of proportion to some extent. But it was a spoiler, because if you knew before Infinity War came out that the next movie was called Endgame, then you know that there wasn’t an ending to Infinity War. But that had been the title of the movie from the moment we conceived of doing the two films. In large part, because…it’s seeded right there. I mean, it’s seeded in Ultron.”
It is an interesting point that Kevin Feige brings up. For a long time leading up to its release, he and the Russo Brothers insisted that Infinity War was its own standalone story. Alas, here is Kevin Feige acknowledging that the film is indeed part one of an overall narrative that will conclude with Endgame. Regardless, audiences found the film more than satisfying. At least that is what the $2 billion worth of box office receipts say.
As for the title itself– Endgame— Kevin Feige is right. It has been there all along. The studio head even points to Tony Stark’s use of the specific word in Avengers: Ultron. Even without seeing the film, Endgame seems like the perfect title.
What do you think? Is Avengers: Endgame the perfect title for the upcoming film? Do you agree with Kevin Feige’s rationale for keeping the title a secret for so long? Let us know in the comments below!
