Avengers: Infinity War was a massive film but it was still able to wrap up its story within two-and-a-half hours. That’s still definitely a hefty chunk of time but there are plenty of films which carry runtimes of three or four hours. It seems that one of these films may end up being the follow-up to Infinity War, titled Avengers: Endgame.
Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind Avengers: Endgame, recently took part in an interview with Empire. During the interview, the directors were asked some interesting questions regarding how the film will top its predecessor. This is what Joe Russo had to say about how they’ll top Infinity War.
“With a lot of hard work.”
Joe Russo then went on to explain the process of helming such a massive film that is more than just a sequel, it’s a whole wrapping up of a decade of storytelling.
“Whether we top Infinity War or not, I don’t know, but we try to tell the best story we can with these characters. This is bringing to a close the first decade of stories. I think that alone has a dramatic power to it.”
When pressed for further details regarding Avengers: Endgame, Joe Russo revealed that he wishes to remain quiet on story details. He did, however, reveal the very possible decision to make the final cut of the film three hours long.
“There’s a high probability that this movie will clock in at around three hours. It’s a big movie with a lot of story.”
Captain Marvel is hitting theaters in just a few months and will introduce the titular character, played by Brie Larson, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her arrival was teased in the post-credits scene during Infinity War, setting up her return in Avengers: Endgame.
