While speaking to Backstory Magazine, Avengers Endgame‘s writers talked a bit about the scrapped background scenes for Thanos. In it, Christopher Markus that it revolved around him trying to make his case on Titan:
“We wrote some scenes, sort of flashbacky scenes of a young Thanos on Titan trying to make his case.”
He then compared the scene of Thanos’ backstory to Jor-El making his case on Krypton in the Superman mythos:
“[Part] of the reason it went away is it got a little too Jor-El on Krypton making his case, you know?”
He then went on to say that it was the kind of thing that you could imply and not actually have a full scene revolve around it:
“It was the sort of thing you could imply without having to see.”
From the look of things, the Avengers: Endgame writers realized that they didn’t have to show all of Thanos’ backstory in order to make him a compelling character!
