The theory postulated over on Reddit is that we didn’t see Uncle Ben die or even get a direct reference to him in Homecoming — or even Captain America: Civil War — because the Russos are prepping Tony to take on that role. How’s that? Well, Tony recruits Peter in Civil War, watches him from afar and then later rebukes him for his errors in Homecoming, and then officially makes him an Avenger in Avengers: Infinity War. And then Peter didn’t feel so good, as Tony was left to watch Peter turn to dust before his eyes.
Now we already know at this point that Peter Parker will be back not just for Avengers: Endgame, but Spider-Man: Far From Home as well, but the theory stated is that once all of the deaths as a result of the Thanos snap are undone, Peter will find himself in danger once again. It’s at this point that Tony will make the ultimate sacrifice and die to save Peter’s life, thus mirroring what’s often done with Uncle Ben. Here, have a look at the theory for yourself.
Given how often some claim that Tony is a stand-in for Uncle Ben, it remains to be seen how this theory would rub those who feel Tony plays too big a role in Peter’s life even though, again, when looking at Homecoming as a whole, Tony’s in very little of the actual movie. But should Tony pay the ultimate price and die in Avengers: Endgame, do you think this would be a good way for Mr. Iron Man to go out? What do you think of the theory? Let us know in the comments below.
Avengers: Endgame will hit theaters on April 26, 2019.
