‘Avengers: Endgame’ Gets A ‘Logan’-Style Trailer

Thanos, what did you do? Okay, but on a serious note. It takes no time at all for fans out there on the internet to get creative with properties they enjoy, and when it comes to comic adaptations, borrowing elements from one property and applying it to another is still all the rage. Since the very first trailer for James Mangold’s Logan and the expert use of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt,” you can go on YouTube right now and find “Hurt” being used for other comic adaptations, even Infinity War. So, logically, you’d expect the same to be done for Avengers: Endgame, right?

Correct. Starting off with Tony’s message to Pepper as he drifts in space after the devastating battle with Thanos on Titan in Avengers: Infinity War, the trailer kicks in Cash’s “Hurt” and pretty much plays out as the Endgame trailer did — Thanos tending to his garden and such, but this switches things up a bit midway. Rather than just giving us footage from the Endgame trailer, the trailer splices in footage from past Marvel Cinematic Universe films played against the survivors in contemplation.

For example, the shot of Thor in deep thought is juxtaposed against him on the elevator with Loki in Thor: Ragnarok, Natasha finding Ronin is played against the reveal of Hawkeye’s family in Age of Ultron, Steve in tears as he remembers Bucky fading into ashes in Infinity War, and the kicker of Tony’s nightmare sequence from Age of Ultron itself. Then the title, which is simply Endgame. Here, have a look at the video courtesy of a YouTube user by the name of Mr. Krepshus.

Of course, unless Endgame ends with either Tony or Cap taking something huge through the chest and watching as the rest of the Avengers head towards Eden, perhaps this may not get as dark as Logan got, but it’s an interesting juxtaposition. Given the seriousness of Logan’s tone and feel under Mangold’s direction, it’s no wonder that so many fans have created their own versions of trailers for comic adaptations in the vein and style of Logan.

What do you think of this, though? Do you think the use of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” and going for a Logan sort of feel works for this fan trailer? Let us know in the comments below.

Avengers: Endgame will be released in theaters in April of 2019.
