We Will Learn About ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Pager In ‘Captain Marvel’

Once Thanos snapped his fingers at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, half of humanity was erased from existence, most notably former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury. But before he was dusted, Fury sent a distress call on his pager device to Captain Marvel.  Captain Marvel will reveal the significance of this pager and Fury’s use of it in that moment, according to the film’s executive producer Jonathan Shwartz.

Schwartz said as much in an interview with Comicbook.com:

“I think it’s a combination of things. I think we will understand over the course of these movies why Fury makes the decisions that he does. He’s always a mysterious guy, and he always has his own reasons, but hopefully, we can clarify some of that for the audience.”

We will be seeing Fury and Carol’s relationship on full display throughout the events of Captain Marvel, and it’s curious to wonder why Fury has waited so long to contact her after all this time. Surely people disintegrating left and right is a cause for concern, but was there something that happened that made them estranged, or did Fury not think he needed her at all times? Only time will tell.

What significance do you think the pager will have in Captain Marvel? Did Fury really wait this long for a reason? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.
