‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Directors Comment On Popular Vision Fan Theory

During a Q&A with the directors of Avengers: Infinity War, a fan brought up a popular fan theory about the possible return of Vision (Paul Bettany).

Paul Bettany has had quite an interesting journey throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the MCU’s inaugural film Iron Man, Bettany voiced J.A.R.V.I.S., the A.I. that exists in all of Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) personal technology, most importantly in his Iron Man suits. That ended in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, though. Early on in the film, Ultron (James Spader) destroys J.A.R.V.I.S. and begins his take over. Later on, as pictured above, Bettany donned some prosthetics and make-up to portray the popular Marvel hero Vision.

Vision was brought to life with the Mind Stone, which played a very key role in Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately for Vision, despite the best efforts of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Thanos (Josh Brolin) obtains the Mind Stone and seemingly murders Vision with no remorse. That being said, there has been a popular fan theory circulating that suggests Vision could still be alive by returning to the Mind Stone that birthed him in Age of Ultron, as opposed to having actually been killed. In a Q&A during a Collider Screening Series event, Joe Russo addressed the legitimacy of the fan theory with the following, simple answer.

“Vision’s dead.”

Joe Russo then followed up with another humorous comment regarding the actor who plays the fallen Avenger.

“Paul Bettany has been very upset with us.”

The fan theory reflects a similar fan theory regarding the fate of every one disintegrated by Thanos’ devastating snap. Essentially, the theory suggests that Vision is waiting inside of the Mind Stone ready to make his hero entrance in the follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theaters next year. A recent report suggested that Vision and the Scarlet Witch will be a series debuting on the upcoming Disney Plus streaming service, so even if the character is dead, fans may be able to see more adventures with Vision in the future.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Avengers: Infinity War as soon as more information becomes available. Do you think Vision is really dead?
