Speaking to IGN, Digital Domain’s Kelly Port and Marvel Studios’ Dan DeLeeuw, who worked on Avengers: Infinity War, mentioned that every Infinity Stone was associated with a color and that they were careful in coding each color every time a particular stone was being used or present in a scene.
DeLeeuw spoke about the infamous scene depicting Thanos and a young Gamora in what seems to be inside the Soul Stone, saying he thought of it as a bloody vault:
“We just explore quite a few different things and play around with the idea that it was a sort of vault, or as if we were in the Soul Stone, for example. But I think it ended up taking me playing around with the spread water as if… we had a lot of blood involved.”
He even refers to that space in the Soul Stone as “the way station”:
“It was interesting, because Thanos being that lead character, normally… you can get very introspective. The metaphysical way station came along, and we think, that would be interesting. But from a storytelling perspective, I thought it was really wonderful that that sequence stayed in there, because [it’s] really a nice kind of pause. Like, it just goes straight from the snap to people flipping out. It had this moment of reflection, which I thought was really nice just in the narrative, reflecting about what he has done.”
After that, Port clarified that they were careful about which colors they used each time a stone was present:
“We’re always trying to color code anything the different Stones would do. Whenever you use the Power Stone it was purple, whatever you use the Space Stone it was blue, and so kind of hitting on the orange kind of tied into that.”
As a final comment, Port mentioned that she didn’t think that place, the “way station,” actually existed and the one person that really knows the nature of these kinds of scenes is Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios.
