According to The Wrap, Josh Brolin is boarding the cast of the Dune remake as Gurney Halleck, the character played by Patrick Stewart in the 1984 movie by David Lynch. The Avengers star is joining Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac and Javier Bardem.
Legendary acquired the film and television rights to Frank Herbert’s novel in November 2016 with Arrival director Denis Villeneuve officially signing on to helm a feature film reboot in February 2017. Villeneuve has described the reboot as a dream project.
The project won’t mark the first time that Dune has received a live-action adaptation. David Lynch directed a Dune film that was released in 1984. It was met with polarizing reviews but has since gained cult status. The 2000 Dune mini-series, meanwhile, remains one of the highest-rated programs on the Sci-Fi channel.
No release date for the Dune reboot has been announced, but Villeneuve has confirmed that it will be his next project after Blade Runner 2049.
