Downey Jr.’s contract to play Iron Man is up with the fourth Avengers film. As is the contracts for Captain America actor Chris Evans, as well as Thor actor Chris Hemsworth. The three Marvel stars have yet to renew their contracts to reprise their roles so it’s not out of the question that one of the characters could meet their demise in the upcoming film.
The most we’ve seen of Downey Jr. from Avengers: Endgame is Tony Stark stranded in space aboard the Milano with Karen Gillan’s Nebula. Although leaked set photos, as well as an Audi ad, have revealed the character will appear on Earth in the film, it’s still possible it could be the end for Iron Man kicked off the cinematic universe back with his very own standalone film in 2008.
Avengers: Endgame will serve as a follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War and as the conclusion to the 22 films that came before it before Marvel kicks off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame is expected to star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Brie Larson, Josh Brolin and Chris Pratt.
A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.
Avengers: Endgame is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 26, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we learn it.
