Director Joe Carnahan (The Grey) has officially exited the third installment of the Bad Boys franchise, Bad Boys For Life.
An inside source told THR that the director left the project due to scheduling conflicts, however, other sources claim Carnahan was having creative differences with the studio.
Carnahan had also penned the most recent draft of the script for the film. Sources close to the project also said that Sony has already begun the search for a new director and that a new writer may also be brought on board.
Development on the project has struggled for quite some time. Carnahan had originally stepped in after Michael Bay’s exit. After shuffling release dates several times, Sony scheduled the film to hit theaters on November 8, 2018.
Details on the plot are under wraps but the film is to see will see another team-up between Detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Bennett (Martin Lawrence). Sony also has plans for Bad Boys 4 but the project does not currently have a release date.
Carnahan himself will instead focus his attention on several of the projects he’s working on which includes the scripts for Shawn Levy’s video game adaptation of Uncharted and X-Force. He’s also working on a TV adaptation of Narc as well as an American remake of the Indonesian action film The Raid for which he is set to write and direct.
