DC Extended Univese co-producer Geoff Johns reveals that Joss Whedon will begin work on the upcoming 'Batgirl' movie in 2018.
After his duties on Justice League are complete, Whedon is expected to start working on Batgirl for the DCEU next year. During an interview with IGN Live, DCEU co-producer Geoff Johns revealed that Whedon will focus on the new film in the new year:
“But for Batman what I will say is that Batman is more than just Batman and, you know, it’s been way too long since we’ve seen, you know, an expansion of that universe, and Batgirl – we are doing Batgirl with Joss Whedon, it’s going to be super exciting. He’s going to start that next year, and that’s just the start.”
So it looks like fans may be getting a Batgirl movie a little sooner than many expected. The DCEU is on a roll with exciting filmmakers like Patty Jenkins, James Wan and David F. Sandberg in the fold. With Whedon now part of the team, it all hides well for the franchise’s future.
Justice League opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.
