‘Batman Returns’ Star Danny DeVito Comments On Colin Farrell’s Penguin Casting

Batman Returns star Danny DeVito has shared his thoughts regarding Colin Farrell being cast as the Penguin.

Over the past few weeks, there’s been a flurry of casting news for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, with the role of Penguin rumored to be going to critically-acclaimed actor Colin Farrell. If the rumors are true, Colin Farrell will be the second actor to portray Penguin on the big screen, after Danny DeVito, who starred in Batman Returns.

During an interview with ScreenRant to promote the upcoming Jumanji: The Next Level, Danny DeVito was asked to shared his thoughts on Colin Farrell potentially taking on the role of Penguin for The Batman. Here’s what he told the site:

“Colin’s a great actor… He’s a good friend of mine. I’ve known him for many years and I think he’s going to do a great job as the Penguin. It’s going to be really interesting to see his take on it.”

Colin Farrell and Danny DeVito last starred together in Disney’s reboot of Dumbo which premiered earlier this year. Colin Farrell could certainly give an interesting performance as Penguin for The Batman considering he doesn’t do similar projects to Danny DeVito. Unfortunately, Danny DeVito only appeared in the role of Penguin for one film. Best known for In Bruges and The Lobster, Colin Farrell has been known to give serious, contemplative performances that often veer into erratic territory. Seeing as he has Danny DeVito’s blessing for The Batman, we’re sure Colin Farrell will do an excellent job introducing a brand new generation to the terrors of Penguin.

Would you like to see Colin Farrell take on the role of Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman? Are you happy to see Danny DeVito extend his blessings to Colin Farrell? Comment below and let us know!

Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Recently, Colin Farrell was reportedly in talks to play the Penguin.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
