'The Batman' director Ben Affleck says the highly-anticipated DC Extended Universe project is expected to begin filming in spring.
“Affleck indicated that he expected the film will begin shooting in the spring.”
Affleck, who donned the cape and cowl for his largely praised performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, expressed his enthusiasm about the current state of the project.
“We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together. We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”
Affleck praised the work of previous filmmakers and actors who have placed their unique stamp on Batman while adressing the need to create his own vision for the character.
“I respect all of those [Batman] movies. Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job. At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”
Last week it was reported that Justice League 2 had been pushed back to an unknown date in order to make room for Affleck’s The Batman, though it is unknown at this time if the solo Batman film will now take Justice League 2‘s previously scheduled release date of June 4, 2019. Stay tuned for more updates on both projects.
