James McAvoy Down To Play Batman Villain The Riddler If He Loses X-Men Role

While streaming live on his official Instagram account, X-Men star James McAvoy stated he would be willing to play Batman villain The Riddler.

Warner Bros. is set to bring a younger version of Batman to the big screen soon and while details are on the plot are currently unknown, director Matt Reeves has stated the film will feature multiple villains from the Caped Crusader’s rogues’ gallery.

Meanwhile, Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s key entertainment assets is set to close soon, meaning the future of the X-Men franchise will likely head down a different path once the characters fall under Marvel Studios’ umbrella. With his future as Professor X uncertain, James McAvoy noted he would be willing to portray Batman villain The Riddler when asked who he would like to portray if he were to join the DC Universe:

“The Riddler, maybe? I always liked him when I was growing up. I’ve always thought DC does really good bad guys.”

So what do you think? Would James McAvoy make for a great Riddler? Let us know in the comments below!

In the meantime, the next chapter of the X-Men franchise is set to finally hit theaters this summer while The Batman is due on June 25, 2021.

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

Dark Phoenix will be released in theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men franchise and the Disney-Fox merger as we learn it.
