In 2018, Lakeith Stanfield starred in Sorry to Bother You as Cassius Green and the actor discussed how thrilled he was to see people dressing up as the character on Halloween. However, Stanfield added that he also hopes to one day see people dressed like him as The Joker, a character he believes he will “inevitably” play:
“I want people to dress up as me as black Joker, when that inevitably happens.”
While many actors have portrayed the classic Batman villain, each one with a unique take, Lakeith Stanfield explained that he believes there is much that has yet to be explored in terms of performance:
“I just think there are so many things that haven’t been touched yet in terms of how the performance can be delivered. […] When I make the movie myself.”

Meanwhile, the Clown Prince of Crime will next appear in a new origin film starring Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role.
“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
Joker will be released in theaters on October 4, 2019.
