Last week, Warner Bros. approved Robert Pattinson to become the star of The Batman, the highly-anticipated DC Comics movie from Cloverfield and War for the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves. Now, Reeves has finally confirmed that Robert Pattinson has been cast as the Caped Crusader.
Earlier this morning, Matt Reeves took to Twitter to post a GIF of Robert Pattinson in the 2017 crime film Good Time, confirming his casting in The Batman. The filmmaker simply captioned the GIF with three bat emojis. You can check it out below.
Former Bruce Wayne Ben Affleck was originally set to write and direct The Batman. He eventually stepped down and handed the duties to Matt Reeves, who’s been attached to the movie since February 2017. Nearly a year later, Ben Affleck revealed that he had decided to hang up the cape and cowl, allowing Reeves to look for a younger Batman.
Plot details for The Batman project are currently under wraps. It’s said to revolve around a young Bruce Wayne and Matt Reeves has previously confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. The list also includes a Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, The Suicide Squad, Nightwing, Supergirl, Plastic Man and New Gods.
The Batman is set to open in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on the project.
