Batman Comic Book Artist Norm Breyfogle Passes Away At 58

Famous comic book artist Norm Breyfogle, known for his work on Batman, passed away on Monday at the age of 58 in Houghton, Michigan.

The Wrap has confirmed his death on Wednesday, with no details on the cause of his death released publicly. Breyfogle is best known for his work on the caped crusader from 1987 to 1995. Breyfogle started illustrating Detective Comics with Alan Grant in 1987 before moving on to Batman in 1990, where he helped introduce Tim Drake.

During his run on Batman comics, Breyfogle helped create Jeremiah Arkham, Mr. Zsasz, and Amygdala. Breyfogle also worked on Batman: Holy Terror, the first DC Comic to feature the Elseworlds logo. The artist continued to work with DC on the one-shot line DC Retroactive and Batman Beyond Unlimited.

DC Comics published “Legends of the Dark Knight: Norm Breyfogle Vol. 1,” a hardcover collection of Breyfogle’s early work on the dark knight with the second volume of the collection set for release in November.

Breyfogle also worked for Marvel on AvengersBlack PantherHellcatMarvel FanfareMoon Knight and co-created Prime for Malibu Comics’ Ultraverse. In 2008, the artist drew for Archie Comics’ Archie loves Betty and Archie loves Veronica.
