‘Pennyworth’ Star Reveals His Favorite Batman And It’s Not Ben Affleck

During an interview with Variety, Pennyworth star Jack Bannon revealed his favorite Batman and Ben Affleck was not his top choice.

Ben Affleck made his first appearance at the Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman before reprising the role in Justice League. While both films received mixed reactions, at best, Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman is regarded by many as the best depiction of the character in a live-action film.

Unfortunately for those fans, Ben Affleck’s time as Batman has come to an end and the actor joins a growing list of performers to have once donned the cape and cowl. While fans will continue to argue over who the best actor to play Batman was, Pennyworth star Jack Bannon explained why Christian Bale’s performance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy remains his favorite take on the character:

“I think, generationally, for me, Christian Bale. […] Those films for me, ’cause I didn’t read comics growing up, they were the films… I was a bit young for the Michael Keaton ones, but I have since watched them and he’s also brilliant.”

In May, it was reported that  Robert Pattinson had been cast as Ben Affleck’s Batman replacement for Matt Reeves’ upcoming film. Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that reportedly includes Catwoman.

The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021, while Jack Bannon’s Pennyworth is now airing on Epix.
