Gotham and Pennyworth executive producer Danny Cannon shared some insights about the Alfred Pennyworth centered show that’s coming later this June. The series will show a much younger Alfred while he lived in 1960’s London in which he meets Thomas Wayne, father of Bruce Wayne. The series will also be R rated.
He spoke about many details around the series, but one of the most interesting remarks he made was about the villains that Alfred will be facing. While we won’t get traditional DC villains such as The Penguin or The Joker, or their ancestors for that matter, he did say that we’ll get classic archetypical villains. When asked if they were considering a villain such as Jack The Ripper, he said no that one but maybe his descendants:
“Jack the Ripper was 1880s, but he has descendants.”
What we know at the moment is that Paloma Faith’s character Bet Sykes and Jason Flemyng’s Lord Hardwood will be the main antagonists in the series. If more are coming on the way, its anyone’s guess at the moment. It wouldn’t make sense to see Alfred battle it out against Batman villains who will be created later on and eventually fighting the Caped Crusader. Although, it’s great to think that Alfred may face some older villains like Ra’s al-Ghul at some point in time.

Pennyworth stars Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth, Paloma Faith as Bet Sykes, Polly Walker as Peggy Sykes and, Jason Flemyng as Lord Hardwood.
