According to Deadline, director Adrian Lyne, perhaps best known for films like Jacob’s Ladder, Flashdance, and Fatal Attraction, is set to direct the upcoming adaptation of Deep Water. Production is expected to start in November of this year with Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas starring in the film.
Deep Water will be based on a Patricia Highsmith novel of the same name. The plot involves a married couple who, in a loveless marriage, agree to take other lovers in order to keep themselves from getting a divorce. Matters, however, get complicated when people around them start turning up dead and dives into the darker aspects of idyllic suburban life. Deep Water was originally published in 1957.
This, of course, wouldn’t be the first time Ben Affleck tackled such material. In 2014, Ben Affleck starred in Gone Girl which dived into similar themes regarding marriage and suburban life. So it could be argued that such a role would be perfect for him in his post Batman career.
In addition to Deep Water, Ben Affleck is also set to return to the View Askewniverse for Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. He will also produce, co-write and co-star in the Ridley Scott directed film The Last Duel. So, at the very least, Ben Affleck is keeping busy despite not playing Batman anymore.
