Let’s not bury the lede here. During last night’s episode of Arrow, fans were treated to yet another “Elseworlds” promo teasing the upcoming crossover between The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl. And this one gave us our first look at Ruby Rose’s Batwoman, Gotham City, and Arkham Asylum all in one. This keeps in tradition of the three shows showing brief snippets of what’s to come in the December crossover, so we can probably expect another one with tonight’s episode of The Flash as well.
In the promo, we overhear Barry Allen’s Green Arrow talking to Cisco about this urban legend known as “Batman.” Does Cisco even believe in Batman? We don’t know. While Bruce Wayne exists in the Arrowverse, we don’t know about Batman’s status. Early on in the promo, we see an alarm go off in a prison that is revealed to be the Arrowverse’s take on Arkham Asylum. And with criminals streaming out of the DC Universe’s least trustworthy prison, it seems that there’s been a breakout.
We’re treated to several shots throughout Gotham City, such as the Bat-signal, before getting a full reveal of Kate Kane. And much to the surprise of Barry and Cisco, this is not Batman. No sir, or rather, no ma’am, it most certainly is not a Batman. But it is a Batwoman. And this builds off of the references to Gotham City that we’ve gotten on both Arrow and The Flash as of recent, though it still does not tell us just yet where Batwoman resides. All signs seem to point to Earth-1, given how Barry is aware of Batman, but we will see. Here, have a look at the Elseworlds promo introducing Batwoman in the video below.
With the Elseworlds crossover a little under two weeks away, it will be interesting to see what brings the heroes together for this event. After all, Oliver is still imprisoned as of now, Barry is getting to know his future daughter, and Kara over on Earth-38 has her hands full with Agent Liberty. And if the Elseworlds advertisements are any indication, their worlds are about to be rocked in ways they would never see coming.
What did you think of the Batwoman reveal? And what do you think of Batman being an urban legend on Earth-1? Let us know in the comments below.
The Arrowverse “Elseworlds” crossover starts on Sunday, December 9 with The Flash, continues on December 10 with Arrow, and concludes with Supergirl on December 11. The special will air on the CW.
