THR reports that Rachel Maddow has been cast in the key role of Vesper Fairchild. This character is from the Batman comic book lore and is a radio/TV personality that was involved in a romantic relationship with Bruce Wayne.
However, THR reports that Rachel Maddow won’t physically appear onscreen in Ruby Rose’s Batwoman as Vesper Fairchild and there are currently no plans for her likeness to appear, so don’t expect her to appear onscreen with Ruby Rose. However, Rachel Maddow is said to be involved in multiple episodes. This teases that in regards to the presence of Vesper Fairchild on the series, Rachel Maddow will lend her voice in what’s likely to be fitting within the mold of a radio/podcast personality.
In a statement released to THR, Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries describes why Rachel Maddow was their choice as Vesper Fairchild:
“We consider Vesper Fairchild to be the sardonic Voice of Gotham. In addition to Rachel’s interest in Batwoman, we thought she’d be the perfect casting choice because her own hard-hitting journalism wildly contrasts Vesper’s penchant for snark, gossip and criticism of female superheroes.”
Rachel Maddow is widely recognized as one of the top political commentators on MSNBC. The Rachel Maddow Show has been on the air since 2008 with over 1,500 episodes televised.
