Zac Efron On Rebooting ‘Baywatch’; New Image Released

Zac Efron has offered his take on the upcoming R-rated reboot of the hit 90's series Baywatch directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses).

Next month, Paramount Pictures is hitting the reset button on the hit 90’s series Baywatch in the form of an R-rated film reboot starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

In USA Today’s 10 movies you must see this summer preview, Efron offered his opinion on the reboot telling the magazine, “we took something cherished by the world and leveled it up in a big way.”

Efron stars as Matt Brody, an Olympic gold medalist hired on to help restore the Baywatch brand. Brody finds himself in over his head when he and the Lieutenant of the LA County Lifeguards Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as well as the lifeguards of Baywatch team up against the villainous oil tycoon Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra) who is threatening the future of the bay.

Efron added that it’s very fun when Brody becomes baffled after the job becomes more than he had signed up for:

“It seems pretty clear to him that this job is preventing people from drowning, making sure people don’t get sunburned and hanging out with hot chicks on the beach all day. And then when it turns out to be more than that, it’s just baffling and things go sideways. Brody’s lament is very fun.”

The magazine has also premiered a new image featuring Brody on the job in the lifeguard tower. You can check it out below.

The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jon Bass, Priyanka Chopra, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Pamela Anderson, and David Hasselhoff. Here’s the official synopsis:

BAYWATCH follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Zac Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.

Baywatch hits theaters May 26, 2017.
