Ben Affleck Says ‘The Batman’ Script Needs To Get ‘Better And Better’

Despite the not-so-warm reception to the DC Extended Universe’s films, one of the most universally acclaimed elements has been Ben Affleck’s Batman. Both critics and audiences have praised Affleck’s take as both billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne as well as his work donning the cape and cowl.

Audiences have responded so well to Ben Affleck’s Batman, that the upcoming standalone film he is set to direct is often regarded as one of, if not the most anticipated film in the upcoming slate of DCEU films. Tentatively titled, The Batman, it is set to have the Dark Knight go head-to-head with Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello).

On January 6th, during the press junket for his newest film Live by Night, IGN once again asked Ben Affleck about the status of the film’s script. The Academy Award-winning screenwriter responded:

There’s great stuff in it now. It just needs to get better and better. It’s the same way I felt about (Live by Night) when I was prepping it, it’s just that no one was asking me questions because nobody gave a shit, because there wasn’t any click-throughs.

It took me a year plus to get (Live by Night) ready to launch. Hopefully it won’t take me that long for Batman. We’re working, I think we’re ahead of the curve, and we’re excited.

Hearing this from Ben Affleck is quite fascinating, especially after he recently stated:

It’s not a set thing yet, and there is no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.

Either way, it is nice to see that Ben Affleck is trying really hard to make sure that his Batman film will be something special. With someone as talented at crafting a story as he is, he deserves all the time he needs to make sure the finished product is one for the books.

Ben Affleck’s Batman will next be seen in Justice League, which opens in theaters November 17th.
