Ironhead Studio recently shared an early look into the behind-the-scenes process for creating Ben Affleck’s Batsuit for his debut as Batman in Batman v Superman. The images reveal not only Ben Affleck being fitted for his Batman costume but also a look inside the creative process behind creating the cowl itself, which as detailed in the caption was the first-ever classic Batman cowl that allowed an actor to turn their head while wearing the costume.

After his appearances as Batman in Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, Ben Affleck officially retired from the role and hung up the cape and cowl.
Ben Affleck was originally set to write, direct, and star in his very own standalone Batman film after Justice League but dropped out of directing the project in order to get the script right before starring in the film. Ultimately, Warner Bros. brought in Matt Reeves following his success with the Planet of the Apes sequels. Ben Affleck’s script was rumored to have been inspired by David Fincher’s The Game and would have featured Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke as its villain, but Matt Reeves ultimately chose to start from scratch and develop an entirely new story for the next Batman film and Ben Affleck was replaced by Robert Pattinson in the role.
Not much is known as plot details for The Batman are still under wraps. Previous rumors once pointed to an earlier version of the script featuring Ben Affleck bookending the movie as his current Batman while it introduced a younger version of the iconic character, played by Robert Pattinson. But with Ben Affleck retired from the role, Robert Pattinson has officially replaced the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League star.
Although details are slim, Matt Reeves has confirmed that his movie is not based on Frank Miller’s acclaimed Year One comic and will emphasize the hero as the world’s greatest detective more than previous films have in the past. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new movie trilogy.
Last month, Greig Fraser joined The Batman as its new cinematographer. His previous work includes Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lion, and Zero Dark Thirty. He also shot the 2010 remake of Let Me In, which was written and directed by Matt Reeves.
Matt Reeves’ film is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.
The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on Ben Affleck, The Batman and the future of the DC Extended Universe!
