Kevin Tsujihara has officially confirmed at CinemaCon that Ben Affleck will be directing the upcoming ‘Batman’ standalone film to be released within the next 5 years.
Speaking about ‘Batman v Superman’, Tsujihara expressed satisfaction with how the film set-up the future of the DCEU, “It set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020.” This lead him to say, “I’m also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie.”
This quote caused controversy on the internet as to whether it was actual confirmation Affleck was directing. Some considered this was just reference to Affleck developing the script. However, Warner Brothers later confirmed through a press release that Affleck was indeed directing the film.
It has been expected that Affleck would be directing this film ever since he signed on to portray the character in ‘Batman v Superman’. The theory was only bolstered when it was reported that he would be writing a script alongside DC Entertainment CCO, Geoff Johns. Though this is expected news, it is always good to have official confirmation.
