After wowing audiences in this year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, DC Comics fans have been clamouring to know when Ben Affleck’s Batman film will release. Recently, at the 25th Annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes, discussed when Affleck’s Batman movie is ready to grace the silver screen. Bewkes and the Warner Bros. team are incredibly happy with how well Affleck’s portrayal of Batman has been received, calling it a “big success.” Because of this, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the film has been kicked into overdrive, as the studio wants a release fairly soon.
Bewkes stated:
“Ben announced a Batman movie [that] he’s going to direct, star, write for – I think it’s a year and a half out. So, the strategy worked.”
Of course, Bewkes believes Affleck’s Batman movie could give the DCEU a much needed critical success. While many (myself included) think Zack Snyder’s Justice League will hit with audiences and critics, it is safe to say Affleck’s film will guarantee a success, if the studio allows the Oscar winner freedom. While it is not doom and gloom for DC Comics, as Suicide Squad just passed $730 million worldwide this past weekend, a huge success considering the film’s poor critical response. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has also enjoyed huge success on the DVD/Blu-Ray sales chart, another contributor to DC’s success this calendar year.
You can check out the next DCEU film, Wonder Woman, when it hits theatres on June 2nd, 2017. Justice League hits theatres everywhere on November 16, 2017.
