‘Lion King’: Beyoncé Reportedly Nearing Deal To Produce Soundtrack

Beyoncé may not just be voicing a character in the upcoming remake of Disney’s animated classic The Lion King, the Grammy award winning singer-songwriter could also be providing the film’s soundtrack.

According to The Tracking Board, Beyoncé may be on the verge of closing a huge deal to voice Simba’s love interest, Nala, as well as produce the film’s soundtrack in a fashion similar to Elton John’s soundtrack for the 1994 hit family film. The soundtrack is expected to feature original songs from Beyoncé in addition to classic hit songs from the original film.

Beyoncé was reported to be director Jon Favreau’s top choice from the role of Nala in March.

The film just gained two new additions today including Captain America: Civil War actor John Kani as Rafiki and Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother, Sarabi. Chiwetel Ejiofor was also revealed last week to be in negotiations to voice Simba’s villainous Uncle, Scar.

Donald Glover stars as the voice of Simba with James Earl Jones who returns to voice Simba’s father Mufasa once again. In addition, the film will also feature Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as the voices of Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog, respectively, with political commentator and comedian John Oliver set to voice the red-billed hornbill Zazu.

Production on the project is currently underway in Los Angeles. The script has been written by Jeff Nathanson, the writer behind this summer’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and several Steven Spielberg movies including Catch Me If You Can and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The Lion King is currently slated to hit theaters July 19, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the remake of The Lion King as we learn it.
