DC Entertianment has announced that Bill Finger will receice a writer credit for Gotham and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Before passing away in 1974, Finger made many contributions to the Batman mythos which included the character’s alter ego, the city of Gotham and many of the supporting characters. Bob Kane had received sole official credit for the character due to the original deal that was signed in 1939 but later in life often talked about Finger being an important influence for the series’ development calling Finger “a contributing force” and even stating that “Bill never received the fame and recognition he deserved.” Last year, DC Comics released a re-issue of Batman’s first appearance to celebrate the character’s 75th anniversary which saw DC finally give Finger a cover credit for his work and today DC has gone one step further to give the creator the credit he deserves.
DC Entertainment released the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
“DC Entertainment and the family of Bill Finger are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement that recognizes Mr. Finger’s significant contributions to the Batman family of characters. “Bill Finger was instrumental in developing many of the key creative elements that enrich the Batman universe, and we look forward to building on our acknowledgement of his significant role in DC Comics’ history,” stated Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment. “As part of our acknowledgement of those contributions,” Nelson continued, “we are pleased to confirm today that Bill Finger will be receiving credit in the Warner Bros. television series Gotham beginning later this season, and in the forthcoming motion picture Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Gotham returns September 21st while Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice hits theaters on March 23, 2016.
