DC’s ‘Birds Of Prey’ Reportedly Eyeing Ewan McGregor Or Sharlto Copley For Crime Lord Role

Earlier today, it was reported that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell have been cast as Huntress and Black Canary, respectively, in DC’s Birds of Prey. Now, new details have emerged on which actors are being sought to portray the crime lord who will face off against the titular team of female heroes.

According to the Variety’s Justin Kroll, Star Wars prequel star Ewan McGregor and District 9 star Sharlto Copley are two names the creative team behind the project like for the role of a crime lord who will take on the team. Furthermore, Heroic Hollywood Editor-in-Cheif Umberto Gonzalez stated that Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell is the archetype for Black Mask as the creative team behind are said to be looking for someone with Rockwell’s “lovable rogue qualities.”

Meanwhile, the roles of Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain have yet to be cast.

Details on the plots are currently unknown, though the film will center around the titular team of female heroes and villains based on the DC Comics characters and concepts created by Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Chuck Dixon. Birds of Prey will also feature Batman villain Black Mask as the main antagonist of the film.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. Production on the project is expected to begin this January.

Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
