‘Birthright’ Adaptation Coming From Robert Kirkman & Universal

'Birthright' comic to be adapted by Robert Kirkman as part of a first-look deal between Skybound Entertainment and Universal Studios.

Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, and Universal Studios are all teaming up to bring the fantasy adventure comic Birthright to the big screen.

The project is being set up as part of a first-look deal Universal Studios has with Skybound Entertainment. Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead) is set to produce along with David Alpert, Bryan and Sean Furst, and Jeb Brody. Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, the writing team behind the Despicable Me movies, are attached to the project as well.

Birthright joins Invincible and Kill the Minotaur as the third comic property to be adapted from the Skybound/Universal deal. All three titles are published through the Image Comics imprint Skybound Entertainment.

Created by Joshua Williamson and Andrei Bressan, Birthright follows the Rhodes family as they recover from the loss of their young son, only to be swept into a world of adventure and magic as a man claiming to be their lost son returns to them a year later.

Birthright #30 hits shelves February 21, 2018. There are currently five collected editions, with a sixth collection set to hit shelves April 4, 2018. As the adaptation has no release date, this leaves plenty of time for fans to catch up before the movie’s release.
