‘Black Lightning’ Series Not Expected To Be Part Of Arrowverse

Last year Fox announced that they had greenlit a pilot for a series based on DC Comics superhero Black Lightning with Greg Berlanti, executive producer of the CW’s superhero line-up. Despite the project being developed by Fox, Berlanti’s involvement prompted fans to wonder if the series could crossover into the ‘Arrowverse’, especially considering The Flash made an appearance on Supergirl while the series was airing on CBS. Now, Berlanti has appeared to put those questions to rest, shutting down the prospect of another cross-network adventure.

When asked if Black Lightning could appear alongside the CW’s superheroes, Berlanti seemed to have doubts.

I don’t think so. If we’re lucky enough that that exists, that that show exists, I don’t think those worlds will cross over.

While that does not sound like a definitive answer, it does appear that Berlanti’s preference would be to keep Black Lightning in his own corner. Berlanti talked about developing the pilot last year.

Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.

The pilot will be written by Mara Brock Akil and her husband Salim Akil.

Both will serve as executive producers on the series alongside Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
