Black Manta Will Return For Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman’ Sequel

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II confirmed he is set to reprise his role as Black Manta opposite Jason Momoa in Aquaman 2.

DC villain Black Manta made his DC Extended Universe in Aquaman with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the role. While Black Manta appeared to be defeated before the final act of Aquaman, the Jason Momoa film featured a post-credits scene setting up an alliance between the villain and Dr. Stephen Shin in the sequel.

Of course, with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman sequel in the early stages, there had not been any official word on whether or not Black Manta would return for the second film. During an interview with Uproxx, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II confirmed he will return as Black Manta in Aquaman 2 and revealed what hopes to see for the villain in the Jason Momoa sequel:

“Aquaman 2 is happening! It is happening, and we can look for that, I believe, in 2022. So I’m excited to be part of that. Black Manta will be back, and hopefully, he’ll be causing a lot more trouble than he did in the first one.”

Are you excited to see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II reprise his role as Black Manta? Do you think Black Manta will be a more formidable foe for his rematch with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman? Let us know your thoughts below!

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is working on the script for Aquaman 2 and James Wan expected to return to the director’s chair. For now, fans can rewatch Jason Momoa’s first Aquaman film on all home media formats.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an acition-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman is available on Digital HD, 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD.
