Comic-Con: ‘Black Panther’ & ‘Captain Marvel’ Sequels Officially Announced

Sequels to Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel are officially in development at Marvel Studios.

During the Marvel Studios Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige confirmed that Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2 are on the way. The studio has not yet set release dates for the two movies.

Black Panther helmer Ryan Googler is returning to the director’s chair for the sequel. Coogler’s first Black Panther movie featured Boseman reprising his role as T’Challa in his character’s first standalone film after his introduction in Captain America: Civil War. The film followed the King of Wakanda as he returned home to face a threat from within and grossed $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office.

Meanwhile, Captain Marvel does not yet have a director. The film marked the debut of Brie Larson as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Carol Danvers. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed Larson’s first cinematic solo outing as the character, which grossed 1.128 billion globally.

Black Panther and Captain Marvel can currently be seen in Avengers: Endgame. Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers:Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo,  Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
