The Oscars have shown a lot of love to the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Panther this evening by giving it not only multiple nominations but, one for the most coveted award, Best Motion Picture of the year. The Oscars awards announcements aren’t there quite yet but the award for Best Production Design just went out and of course, Disney and Marvel’s globe-trotting action film Black Panther has walked away with it.
Upon release, Black Panther caught flack for some of its CGI but it was praised for the practical ways the film brought the world to life, such as the costumes and sets. The Oscars tonight rewarded the Black Panther crew’s hard work with the award for Best Production Design, beating out another beloved Disney film from last year, Mary Poppins Returns. The Marvel solo adventure also beat out the Ryan Gosling-starring biopic First Man, Netflix’s Roma, and the period piece The Favourite for the award.
