‘Black Panther’: Ryan Coogler Says Shuri Is On Par With Tony Stark

It looks like Tony Stark might have an equally cunning and intelligent counterpart over in Wakanda. Sitting down with Entertainment Weekly, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige broke down the film’s first trailer. One moment Coogler called out in particular was the glimpse we got of Letitia Wright’s Princess Shuri (pictured above).

Coogler says the character is more than just a Wakandan fighter – she’s also a brilliant scientist.

Wright’s Princess Shuri character is not only a fighter but a brilliant scientist, on par with Iron Man’s Tony Stark, Coogler says. She has spent her life researching and experimenting with Vibranium, and these twin blasters are just one of her devices.

Coogler’s words reflect something Wright recently said of her character. The actress called out Shuri’s love of technology and her innovative mind, celebrating her as a role model for young women.

Black Panther will be in theaters on February 16, 2018.
