‘Black Panther’ Will Feature ‘X-Men’-Like Relationship

With its all-star cast and exciting story, Black Panther is one of the most anticipated Marvel Studios films yet. This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa) spoke to EW about how fans can expect a difference of opinion between himself and the villainous Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan. Check out what he had to say below:

“Me and T’Challa have two totally different approaches to the throne as well and you see those two opposing sides clash. So you can call it a Magneto/Professor X type of chemistry. That’s all I can give away.”

X-Men fans know that the core disagreement between Magneto and Professor X deals with the way they view mutants. Magneto believes mutants should rise up, while Professor X thinks that they should live alongside the humans.

It is not hard to envision a similar disagreement in Wakanda, as perhaps Killmonger, who was exiled in the comics, believes he knows better for how the nation should be run following the death of their king.

Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke,  Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, Andy Serkis and John Kan.

Black Panther will be released in theaters on February 16, 2018.
