Chadwick Boseman Hints We May See More Than One Black Panther

“The Black Panther has been a protector of Wakanda for generations. A mantle passed from warrior to warrior.”

King T’Challa stated this in a rather awkward car ride with Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson during the critically-acclaimed, Captain America: Civil War. Now, based on an interview that Chadwick Boseman did with Yahoo Movies, it seems likely that the solo Black Panther film due out in 2018, will explore the mythology briefly touched upon in Civil War.

There is definitely more of his origin in Black Panther,” Boseman said about his character’s solo film. “You’re going to learn about Wakanda, its culture, its traditions, the past. You can go through all the comic books and know that there’s more Panthers that have existed in the past – that’s origin.”

Is it possible we could see some kind of epic prologue in Black Panther akin to the opening of Lord of the Rings, where we are taken through hundreds of years of history in Wakanda and witness the evolution of the mantle as it is passed from generation to generation? And what of the villain, Ulysses Klaw, played by Andy Serkis in Avengers: Age of Ultron? His character is a prominent Black Panther villain and it would be interesting to uncover the history the two characters have with one another.

Creed director, Ryan Coogler will helm the upcoming solo film, which stars Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Danai Gurira and will be released in 2018.

In the meantime, you can watch Black Panther steal the show over and over again in Captain America: Civil War, which is now available for purchase on DVD and Blu-Ray.
