After Avengers: Endgame concludes the first decade of stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise will explore the past of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in a solo movie centered on the former KGB agent. Now, casting details offers fans a hint at what to expect from the cast of allies and enemies Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will face, including an “exciting” man villain described a man in his 40s, with the studio reportedly open to all ethnicities for the role.
Marvel Studios is also seeking to cast four roles the outlet speculates could be double agents. One of those roles is a “kick-ass” female character described as a “female Bond” while the other is a male character the studio is seemingly hoping to cast with an African, Middle Eastern or East Indian actor. The studio is also searching one European Caucasian female and one European Caucasian male for two characters in 50 to 60-year-old age range. Actors and actresses who can speak multiple languages are being sought for all four roles.
A secondary villain is also being cast, with the studio seeking an actress in her 50s to play the role, while a minor character described as a “bookish American” is also listed in the breakdown.
Directed by By Cate Shortland from a script written by Ned Benson and Jac Schaeffer, the Black Widow film is expected to take place before the Scarlett Johansson character’s debut in Iron Man 2. The standalone film has the opportunity to explore the widow program, which would reveal the origin of Black Widow and how she became the formidable assassin she is today. In the comics, Natasha Romanoff was trained by the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, who is played by Sebastian Stan in the films.
