In a backstage interview with Collider at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Kevin Feige affirmed the film featuring Mahershala Ali as the vampire hunter will not be released during the upcoming slate of movies, but it will be on the horizon. However, Feige did allude that the schedule can quickly change.
“Things can move, things can change as they did when you go back and look at what we talked about five years ago for Phase 3, but we’ve been working on this for quite a while and it’s pretty set.”
Check out what Feige had to say in the short clip from the interview below.
During yesterday’s Marvel Studios Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Feige announced that Mahershala Ali has signed on to play Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mahershala Ali has won two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Moonlight and Green Book.
In Marvel Comics, Blade is also known as Eric Brooks, the half-human and half-vampire master martial artist whose mother was killed by a vampire during his birth. Since then, Blade has mastered his own fighting style to take on various types of monsters and rid the world of vampires.
Wesley Snipes first portrayed the eponymous hero in 1998’s Blade and returned for the sequel directed by Guillermo del Toro. Blade Trinity marked his final appearance as the character.
